What's For Dinner? - FIT Human Performance
June 3, 2018 –
Are you cooking your food? I know we are all busy these days, and I know you do not want to have the oven and 2 burners going with this heat. I know you may not feel like taking the time to plan out and prepare a meal for one, or two. I know the lines at the grocery store are a pain in the a_ _. I know how easy it is to order a pizza!
For those of you who watch TV, you might have a few favorites like Sharon and I do. We record a few shows and enjoy making time to sit with the dogs and enjoy them. Of the gazillion programs we pay for with that ridiculous cable bill … all we find worthwhile is the Chicago (Med, PD, and Fire) series and cooking stuff.
We may not the best cooks but we do make an exerted effort at using our kitchen and love doing so. We also know what we are eating when we choose our foods to create our menus. We know how much butter, oil, salt, sugar, and extra calories are going into those dishes. First hand I do know that restaurant’s often use far too much of the fatty, unhealthy ingredients above. WAY to much butter, salt, sugar and oils for flavor and appearance. That glisten on your food is usually butter or oil and extra calories. YUM!
Did you know that even a cheap/bad steak with butter on top is delicious? There are so many tasty tricks to food preparation that change flavor and make foods taste amazing. But if you only trust what comes through a window or pre-pared from a box or plastic container you will not know what they did to that food to make it enticing. What is the solution to the tom foolery? Cook your own food! Remember what Mom said … ‘you are what you eat’.
To be honest with yourself about the quality of food you are filling your body with is pretty darn important. Today, I will make some banana bread rather than buy it from Starbucks in the mornings and that is my FOOD commitment for the day. Tonight I will prepare a bag salad and add an avocado. Kind of hard not to trust a bag salad, although it is store bought. We’re only human right!?
Here’s a question for you, what is your FOOD commitment for today? Of course it is your life, your diet, and your journey. Most of you want to lose some fat and tone up your muscles and to help that transition remember that food is your friend. Choose your friends wisely and healthy!
In good health,
Bob
