The 'C' Word - FIT Human Performance

The ‘C’ Word

Post

May 4, 2019 –

Talking with a client this week and he asked ‘how long have I been coming to see you and enjoy this Personal Training Program’?  From his initial medical referral to visit me, we both know his life has only improved; strength, posture, balance, and sport.  No doubt improving his physical fitness (functional strength and movement) has changed his life for the better.  We determined that this May will be 48 months of Commitment.   Simply 2 times a week (minus his camping, fishing, or family vacations)! We went on to discuss the long-term benefits of his Commitment moving forward, such as thwarting off dementia, hyperlipidemia, osteoporosis, diabetes, and SO much many more debilitating, disfiguring, or dangerous diseases that effect the body. Weight lifting is not a cure all, but functional resistance training is a lifestyle that allows the body to build up mitochondria in the muscles, immunities in the organs, and density in the bones to allow the body to age with strength.  Period!

Over the span of 2 years my client has built up enough strength to play with his grandchildren (and one of them is a Ninja) who just took 2ndplace in the Texas Ninja League Tournament hosted by Iron Sports Gym by the way.  And albeit the 72 year old doesn’t compete as Grandpa Ninja he can do pull-ups, push-ups, squats, deadlifts, and sit-ups with ease.  Seriously, all moves done with ease.  Great job Dave!  So what is the secret of his success?

The “C” word – Commitment and Consistency.

No matter who you are or what age fitness becomes important, without developing a commitment and consistency for your plan you are only exercising.  AND you know how hard it is to start a program (again) and how easy it is to quit one (again.) Pain is often one of reasons somebody just stops making their exercise program consistent.  But once they have to start all over again they always regret stopping their exercise in the first place.  Dig deep and commit to yourself! Consistency creates a lifestyle and HEALTHY is a great style to have in life.

Here is the low down on Commitment … your body ends up craving exercise!  Ask somebody who works our every day or 3+ times a week to just STOP.  They will get a bit nervous due to the lack of endorphins their brain is used to from the exercise.  Yes, like a drug … addicted to exercise endorphins is a great place to cherish.

What Dave would say to you if you asked him is that he misses his workouts if gone for a long weekend (or when the gym is closed due to snowfall in Colorado.)  Yes, Grandpa Ninja is hooked on exercise, because he committed to himself.  And he showed that commitment by showing up twice a week at FIT.  Thus adding years and quality to his life with functional strength and movement.  I think if we were to ask him if this has been worth the time and money he would agree boldly that every minute, every penny has been worth it.

Commit to yourself, be consistent and live  …

In good health,

Bob
