Roses Are Red

Roses are Red,

Violets are Blue,

Your bodies best muscle

Is beating in you!

Thump thump, thump thump and so on … amen!  Without thought or effort, your heart is working right now to keep you alive.  Pumping to circulate blood, oxygen, and nutrients to your working muscles and organs.

The heart is a muscle that you definitely want to keep strong.  The sad news is … your heart does have a shelf life and for each one of us it differs.  I hope you all have millions of beats left but how many do you have?  If you use an average of 80 beats per minute, your heart beats about 4,800 times per hour.  That’s a whopping 115,200 per day.  Over the course of a year, your heart would beat about 42,048,000 times! If you live to be 80 years old, your heart would have beaten approximately 3,363,840,000 times!!  That’s over 3 billion  heartbeats!  What a muscle,  maybe I’ll cut back on the coffee.

Wonder how many heartbeats you have already used up?  Take the challenge;

Pick a time about an hour from now.  Take your pulse a couple of times to establish an average number of beats per minute for your heartbeat.  Then calculate the number of minutes you’ve been alive so far and multiple it by your average heart rate.  Your number wont be exact, of course, but you’ll have a rough estimate of how many times your heart has beat so far in your life.  Isn’t that cool!?

Now if you’re an athlete in exceptional shape (or a client of mine at FIT and building your heart muscle), your resting heart rate may be much lower.  Some Olympic athletes report heart rates lower than 40 beats per minute. To check your pulse rate, find your pulse and count the number of beats in 15 seconds.  Then multiply that number by four to calculate your pulse beats per minute.   If that number is much above 100 I would like to talk to you about your cardio program and how to get that pulse much less.  FREE!  Call me at (832)813-8010.

Valentines Day significance:  Feast day of Saint Valentine; the celebration of love and affection.   Well some might say that it is simply a Hallmark Holiday designed to market cards, chocolates, and overpriced restaurants.  Whatever this Wednesday, February 14th has in store for you, I am saying you to a “HAVE A HEART, AND USE IT”!  Find 30 minutes at some point of that day to spend using your heart muscle.  Go walk up and down stairs, or around the block, or do jumping jacks, or dance … find something to do for 30 straight minutes!!  YOU  WILL  LOVE  YOURSELF  for it!!

In good health,

Bob
