Retire to Bodybuilding - FIT Human Performance

Likely anyone reading this already has a vision in their mind of a very svelte large muscled body in a tiny little outfit. Yes, that is the goal of the sport of bodybuilding … to showcase the intense efforts of the sport against your peers and similar contestants. These athletes have spent decades (or a lifetime) monitoring their diet and behavior down to the calorie, the minute, and the goal. Bodybuilding is seriously a very difficult sport. Not to mention the time requirements, hours per every day, that most people honestly cannot find. So, the question is, why are so many baby boomers are taking up the new hobby of bodybuilding? To stay strong, stay flexible, stay focused, stay in shape, and live longer. Not bad reasons in my opinion!
The largest components of such of a lifestyle are diet and exercise. And in my experience, the very focus that everybody reading this article genuinely need. The 4-letter word that keeps me in business is DIET. Many of you are too young at this point to understand just how difficult it is to stay in shape and/or lose weight. There are a lot of factors behind how we look; injuries, pregnancies, vocational responsibility, menopause, tools and equipment, cost/expense, and the most important in my book is knowledge. Exercise safety is a primary fear. There is SO much information out there, how do you know what is safe? The exercise that is safe today might be voodoo tomorrow, and yes the science of exercise (Kinesiology) is a work in progress…but so are you!
Using our vast information highway, I typed in ‘old bodybuilders’ and as you could guess the pages were many and the pictures bountiful. There is so much more information than I intended to review … oh my goodness. Personally, as a youth I was active in bodybuilding for exercise and heck I liked learning about fitness and strength in order to be more competitive in sports. Even after college all my extra time was spent in the weight room, but now it was for employment. I have been working in the health and fitness industry for … well all my life. Bodybuilding has been around me forever and the lifestyle is about as healthy as it can be.
One main reason for falling out of shape is time; we never find the time to exercise. One day, maybe you will find time to slow down the grind of employment or the hours in a commute and exercise. My wife was complaining about not having enough time and a mentor said to her, ‘time is an illusion, a mind game you tell yourself … either you do or you don’t,it has nothing to do with time.’
Below are two of the OLD people I noticed while surfing the information highway. They happen to be strong and healthy. When looking at their biographies the stories were quite similar, they both were “getting old and weak’ and it was time to make a change. So, they decided to get strong and stay that way, a lifestyle built their health and muscle. Just decide to start … either you do or you don’t.
How strong will you be when you get old? Or maybe the better question is, How old will you be when you get strong?
