Quick Loss

Post

July 21, 2018 –

As a kid I didn’t know the feeling of weight loss …simply because I was undersized (one of the small kids) who joined the wrestling team. Today the weight class I reside in would be one of the biggest tallest wrestling monsters on the matt.  There is no way in heaven that my body today would ever be able to compete at 95lbs again.  NOPE! That boy is only a memory.

If by chance I happened to break 100 pounds the day of a meet … well that was easy, put on a plastic bag and go run a mile. Yes, I would sweat out lots of water. BINGO, I’d make weight!  And that is the exact method of weight loss that  quick weight loss diets trick you into. YES it is.  The first 5-8 pounds is simply water loss and the scale movement sets a trigger in your brain how easy weight loss is going to be.  It happens to be the next 5-8  pounds or more that are a challenge.  You already know this.

So now what? Move More!

Calories in equal calories out, you know that too! When do we start looking at the calorie numbers?  It really isn’t hard to do, but it is aggravating.  Most of us are pattern eaters, and find many of the same foods are in your diet every week.  Be it taste, cost, or convenience, we habitually fill our refrigerators, pantries, and tummies with the same foods each day or week.  A few times of reviewing the calorie count and you happen to memorize the numbers and allocate the portions accordingly.

A friend today told me that even though she knows she is not the weight she was when leaving college, she is ok with that because she knew she did not look healthy at that time in her life.  Not many people look the same as they did 25 years ago, skin looses elasticity, muscles loose size, strength, and tone, and the little known fact that your organs do not shrink as your body does.  Thus tummies protrude, hips expand, and posture goes forward and down.

Resistance training is the only way to genuinely maintain a fitness that keeps muscle strong and toned, skin tighter, core muscles flatter, and the upper back strong enough to erect the spine by pulling the shoulders back and skull upright.  If you happen to look similar to the person you were 25 years ago I applaud you and encourage you to stay healthy forever!

Christmas is less than 6 months away, are you ready? What is your plan to get ready for the holidays?  If it were 2 weeks away, would you panic?  Most of us baby boomers know, change takes a lot of work and a lot of time. LETS DO THIS!

Challenge … on your next visit to FIT … bring me a pic of who you are exercising to look like. It is a good way to develop goals with a mental picture to inspire you.  Find one and let’s work towards that.  We only have 21 weeks until Thanksgiving and 24 weeks until Christmas and 25 weeks until the New Year!  Don’t wait, if this is the year you were going to do better, get started this week.

In good health,

Bob
