Pinky Power - FIT Human Performance
July 14, 2018 –
One of the best aspects of my job is watching the change in my clients. To visually see somebody’s strength improve and change his or her life. And it never fails; they all get stronger physically and mentally. A rare confidence comes from strength, not only do people stand taller due to a balanced muscular system, but from a confidence level, they have a great new outlook on their strength and ability to move better. And with strength training done correctly these newfound attributes go hand in hand … strength increases mobility and provides mobility at the same time. Nobody ever wants to get weaker, ever! But without work, it does happen … I promise you.
Example, a new client of mine visits a local doctor who reviews his health and listens to his thoughts. The Dr. feels he has a solution, so the doc contacts me and asks if I’d be interested in working with a 75 year old male experiencing strength loss and a need for mobility and fitness. “Of course”, I said! I was informed about the shoulder impingement, balance, and loss of strength and that was a launchpad from where I would begin. The referral is directed my way to find my little diamond in the rough of a Personal Training facility last September.
After an FMS assessment we did find all of the items the Dr. mentioned and I was genuine in my mission to make him stronger, more agile, and free from pain. Fast forward to today when we discussed the changes in just ‘one’ movement pattern, and in that exercise alone he went from a 40-pound weight up to todays load of 115 lbs. That is a 287.5% improvement in that muscle group alone … and he proportionately improved in every muscle group of his body. Well done my friend!
The idea for this article happened when he walked up to last weeks exercise selection and laid down on the bench, with hands in position and began to move the weight. He stopped for a moment and looked at me as if asking “was I sure” this was the correct weight. I said take a deep breath and placed one single pinky on the bottom of the bar. He exhaled and lifted it right up, after a rep or two I had to itch my chin and knowingly let go of the bar. He finished the set and racked the bar. What I brought to the exercise was confidence and accountability.
If you have worked with me in the past, I know you have your own story or testimonial on how I somehow pushed you to do it! To try that weight or resistance that you did not know you could do. Accountability counts for security and success, and that 75 year old knows he is stronger today than he has been in decades and wants to keep his new strength … I know he walks taller and is more confident in his golf, camping, gardening, cooking, and anything he puts his mind to.
Eight months of 2 days a week, he has his movement back, stronger and more confident! What next? He knows that he wants to maintain his strength and current quality of life, that is what is next. He realizes age 76 is approaching and wants to be strong for his family, for the Grandkids he will continue to be Ninja’s Grampa and play with them and he simply wants to be there to enjoy their growth. I like it!
Are you feeling weak? FIX IT! Not sure what to do? I know, and we can! Call me today and let’s talk about that goal you have and make a plan. Yes you can!
In good health,
Bob
