The buzzword in nutrition you have all heard recently is ORGANIC,  and nothing could be better!  Organic refers to foods that are produced using methods of farming that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers.  No extra crap, just naturally grown food.  Organic is consuming foods from a holistic and more natural process.

For those of you who have spent time with me and had to endure my explanation of the FMS screen provided at FIT … you know how excited I get about it. My enthusiasm with the Functional Movement System screen and protocols is based on similar ORGANIC methods,  although talking about our movements rather than our foods.  At FIT our buzzword is FUNCTIONAL, as in (F.I.T.) Functional Individualized Training.  The premise of the FMS screen is to identify any risks in the musculoskeletal system by looking at our primary movement patterns.  And there is nothing more ORGANIC about FITness!  The reason we pay passionate attention to the FMS or F.I.T. program is simple; If your body does not move functionally in alignment … then why in the world would you load weights onto your body and increase the risk of injury.

Example:  My friend sits at a desk for extended hours a day,  hands close together on a keyboard, knees bent, hips bent, ankles bent, spine rounded over, and head leaning forward and tilted downward … my friend is well on his way back into fetal position which can mean one of two things:  nearly born or nearly dead. This is no ones fault, it is the conditions we are in for much of our day.  We work, we sleep, we eat, we drive, we sit and relax, and for the most part, we bend in some capacity for all of these reasons.  BUT too much bending of the body without true EXTENDING of the body creates a body out of balance (not in FUNCTIONAL alignment).  By design the muscle origin and insertion that God gave us pulls our bodies right back into fetal position without effort, so we need to make an effort to extend our muscles.  LightbulbI know there is someone out there who just ‘got it’ and a light turned on in your head. You probably sat up straight and lifted your chin up really high didn’t you?  Aww, that feels good!

Organic weight training is how we train at F.I.T.   We move bodies safely and in a manner they were designed to move.  We do not use machines that “might” fit your leverage system (joints), we do not have  unsupervised actions or expectations of superhuman strength, and by no means do we use extra or excessive torque on the body.  The FIT focus is on healthy, organic, Functional movements … how the body is designed to move. Every session, every day, training our bodies to get better at those movement patterns.
