Mush Butt Disorder

Post

August 20, 2017 –

We have all heard that SITTING IS THE NEW SMOKING and immediately understand the phrase. With the evolution of technology and the computer many of us spend multiple hours on end (literally) working or relaxing in a seated position. And for some of you, even the active ones, your Glutes may not be working.

In my FMS assessment I review a few simple exercises to determine dysfunction. Dysfunction is another word for imbalance or even inability. The brain tells the body what to do, it sends the right signals to the right muscles to move the right bones at exactly the right time to do the movement. Here is a fact, in some of the movements that I often demonstrate and describe … when you try it for your self and it doesn’t go very well you have a dysfunction. That muscular imbalance will eventually become an injury. Sorry.

So for those of you wondering if you are experiencing MUSH BUTT SYNDROME would you like to try a test? Of course, only you can truly be honest and do the test.

Mush Butt Self-test protocol

  • Lie flat on your back on an exercise matt or firm surface.
  • Slide each hand under your Glutes, palms down.
  • Engage your core or tighten your tummy
  • Now send the signal to one of them to contract and then to the other.
  • If your do not feel your Glutes tighten or hips lift slightly … you have mush.

Don’t Panic, it is reversible and you will definitely want to work on those glutes, as these muscles ARE the biggest muscles in your body and are the majority of your metabolism. The problem is when your brain is not using these big muscles to do movement, which muscles are you using? The wrong ones is the answer and continued use of the wrong muscles will deliver you to injury. Don’t wait another minute, firm up today!

In good health,

Bob
