It’s time to daydream for a minute … imagine it’s one year from today and you look and feel exactly as you do right now. How do you feel about that image of yourself? Whatever you felt, the outcome is your to own; you can maintain that image, you can let things go and likely worsen that image, or you can take steps in the right direction to improve the image you have of yourself.
As you get up out of your chair or pull out of your driveway in the mornings, you have a clear idea of the direction you want to go and how you are going to get there. You know where you will need to stop, where struggles or traffic may arise, and you have a plan on what to do when you arrive at your destination. Sounds like what we all do every day doesn’t it?
Now let’s go back to the daydream image … are you healthy and happy the image of how you look and feel next year? Honestly, I do hope so. I also hope we will have a very inexpensive Health Care system in place in case any of us do become injured or ill, but I’m not willing to count on that. I think our odds are much better if we plan to be healthier next year than we are this year.
Our health and fitness goals should be no different than our other life goals. It is great to wish and dream of things being better, but the only way to make certain those dreams become a reality is to make a plan and work at it. A FIT-map, like a road-map is what we use at FIT. I’d venture to guess that a very small percent of the population actually has specific health goals with a systematic plan to achieve those goals.
Goal setting can be a treasure map of your overall FITness success. Realistic goals, whether you are a baby boomer or a millennial, you can’t get there if you don’t know where you are going. There truly is a new way of fitness that works and improves health for any age group and the buzz word for it is FUNCTIONAL fitness.

A goal without a plan is just a wish. If you don’t write down your goals, they will remain just a wish list.
