Don’t Be a Bear

Post

October 7, 2018 –

Standing by the pool earlier this summer I noticed myself in my swimsuit; 6-pack abs, toned arms and legs, and svelte!  Wait, that was in my mind … but I do recall that I was a little bit firmer.  So what the heck happened?  I’m not kidding myself, I fell off of my routine.  So soon starts the Holiday season and parties, overeating, and happy Santa Clause napping … where’s my routine!

The routine of daily exercise can simply be covered up with jeans, long sleeve shirts, and light jackets.  Any of us can FALL!  Cooler temperatures and shorter daylight hours can make it much easier for all of us to slow down and forget to speed up our metabolism.  OK another way of putting it … is that I practically let my body go into hibernation.  I’m not a bear so I should not act like one.  All righty, that’s it.  No more hibernation … get FIT!

The fact of the matter is that our bodies are managed and maintained by our Endocrine System.  The endocrine system is made up of glands that produce and secrete hormones to maintain bodily functions such as metabolism, temperature, digestion, sexual function, and growth.  The Endocrine system is regulated by  feedback much in the same way a thermostat regulates the temperature in a room.

Now at this point I have to decide – make this a very long wordy thesis or keep it simple sweetheart.  I’ll go with KISS, so my point is this – stay active!! Winter, spring, summer or FALL … keep active.

The most efficient way to shape up is goal setting. We all know what happened when our children were getting married … we got serious and shaped up.  Goals were definite and fitness priorities came before tasty deserts and sleeping in.  Now I realize sleep is a critical factor and stress is brutal on the body … but activity is a decision.  We make time for what is important, right?!  So make yourself important.

Don’t be a bear! Promise yourself 15 minutes of exercise (any form) every day for a week and just start TODAY.  You will feel better and get the habit started!

In good health,

Bob
